In a Time of Drought and Hunger

In a time of Drought and Hunger is a short-story set in the Canadian north at a time when the boreal forest is on the move due to climate change, shrinking at its southern boundaries and expanding at its northern ones. Tom’s life is likewise changing. His children have grown up and moved south. He is uncertain about his future in the north, his future with his wife Clara. He is aware too that the forest’s migration is being curtailed. The northward expansion is slower compared to the southern loss of forest to grasslands. The forest is gradually being squeezed out of existence.
